Each semester at The Island School a pig from the campus farm is slaughtered, butchered, and then used for meat for future meals. This event is open to the entire community and students are encouraged to help participate in the process if they so choose. For many it is the first time seeing first hand where their food comes from. It is a powerful experience. Here is the event as I saw it from start to finish. Not for the squeemish.
